Eye Disease Management in Gulfport, MS

Eyes give you access to the world around you, so when you have eye problems, it is natural for you to be concerned. We at the Benefield Eye Care PC and Coastal Eye Surgery Center in Gulfport can help you with all your vision needs and problems. As ophthalmology specialists, we provide all kinds of vision services, including diagnosis of eye disease and eye disease management.

You may think that you have healthy eyes. But only qualified eye professionals can examine the inside of the eyes to understand them better. Many common eye diseases often have no early warning signs. These include glaucoma, diabetic eye disease, and age-related macular degeneration.

Glaucoma Treatment

Glaucoma can blind people. While it mostly affects older people, it can affect children as well. Because it is one of the leading causes of blindness, it is dangerous. Glaucoma affects the optic nerve. Usually, an eye doctor can notice it through an eye-pressure test and by an eye dilation exam. The most common form, open-angle glaucoma, can take years to develop.

Angle-closure glaucoma can develop very quickly in just a few days. This is a medical emergency. If you cannot reach us, contact an urgent care center or hospital emergency room. Let them also know we are your regular eye care providers.

Diabetic Eye Disease Treatment

People with diabetes may also have a diabetic eye disease, which is also known as diabetic retinopathy (DR). We may discover you have diabetes before your regular medical provider does. DR is also a leading cause of blindness.

Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD)

Age-related macular degeneration is another leading cause of vision loss. If it is noticed early by an eye doctor, it is usually manageable. But its harmful effects cannot be reversed. If a person already sees the effects of AMD, it is already at an intermediate stage. Our eye specialists can help you manage AMD.

Cataract Procedures

A cataract forms when the lens of an eye becomes cloudy; it is no longer clear. The majority of all Americans over 80 have a cataract problem. Thankfully, there are standard, simple surgical procedures that can take care of the problem. We have experience working with patients with cataracts.

Dry Eye Treatment

Of all eye diseases, this is one of the most common. Thankfully, it is also treatable. Come to see us with your dry eye problems.
